I was hoping it would be a very easy process to clone and replace my 1Tb OS SSD with a 4Tb SSD. I knew that due to the size of the disk I had to convert it from using Master Boot Record (MBR) to GUID Partition Table (GPT); what I did not realise was that the disk “Unique Identifier” would be more significant and problematic than online guides and comments had suggested.

Using DISM to Fix Windows Boot Loop

I experienced an issue today where my Windows 10 instillation was stuck in a boot loop. It would display a ‘Preparing for update’ message instantly followed by ‘Restarting’ and would then promptly restart. Rinse and repeat!
I tried to boot into ‘Safe Mode’ but the same was happening before even that would boot.
After some frustrating web searching on my phone (many, if not all, of the info found described similar but different booting issues) I came across a somewhat old post which suggested using DISM to revert the pending updates.

How to reset the Windows graphics stack (Windows 10)

If you experience any strangeness with the Windows GUI and need to reset the Windows graphics stack, like I occasionally do, this can be a rather useful shortcut to remember.
From time to time we all have to endure the oddities of computer bugs, glitches and the like. Using Windows 10, the most common issue I’ve ran into is the GUI behaving strangely, either going all black, as seen in the image above, or only a mild taskbar mishap.
